Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh's

During the middle period of Ancient Egypt the Pharaoh was the most importnt person in the nation. The Pharaoh was the political and religious leader of the Egyptian people, and was called: 'Lord of the Two Lands' and 'High Priest of Every Temple'.

He was called 'Lord of the Two Lands' because the Pharaoh was the ruler of Upper and Lower Egypt, collecting taxes, and protecting Egypt from invasion. The Pharaoh was called ‘High Priest of Every Temple' because, the Pharaoh was thought to have been sent by the Gods to represent them on Earth. He would have performed rituals for worship and built temples to honour the Gods.

Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs were very protective over their country and many went to war when they thought, or knew their land was threatened, or when they wanted to conquer other lands to create a larger kingdom. If the Pharaoh won the battle, the people of that land had to recognise the Egyptian pharaoh as their ruler, and they would have to offer him (or her) the finest and most expensive goods from their lands.
