The Pyramids of Ancient Egypt

The Egytians built many pyramids for their Kings or Pharaohs, as tombs for burial. The pyramids were built in a variety of ways, and the shape of them differed between the Old Kingdom (2686 B.C to 2181 B.C.) and the Middle Kingdom (2055 B.C. to 1650 B.C.).

Now, there are around eighty pyramids that were built in Ancient Egypt, although, the three largest, and best maintained pyramids are in Giza, and those pyramids were built at the beginning of the Old Kingdom. Of the three the most popular and most famous was built for the Pharaoh Khufu, and is known as the 'Great Pyramid'.
